Shaw & Ford (1991): -
Belshaw (1993): Hosts: uncertain. In Britain Hyloicus pinastni (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) (NHM). In Europe one record from Sciota hostilis (Lep.: Pyralidae). Emden (1954) states recorded from Agrotidae larvae. British distribution: S.England (south of a Bristol-London line). Habitat: heathland and downland (Emden, 1954). In Europe usually found in sandy areas (Herting, 1960). Flight period: late May to late August (35 records).
Tschorsnig (1994): Europe to Scandinavia; HE BY NB / CH. Dry warm areas. Mid May to Mid September. Rare (commoner in South European mountains). Nephopteryx hostilis Steph N. rhenella Zinck. (Pyralidae).
JNCC Calypterate Review (1996): DISTRIBUTION Southern England, south of a line joining London and Bristol. HABITAT Heathland and downland. ECOLOGY Reared from caterpillars of the Pine Hawk-moth, Hyloicus pinastri (Lepidoptera, Sphingidae). Adults from May to August. STATUS There are very few post-1960 records, and the species has declined substantially this century. THREAT Changes in grazing management of grassland sites with subsequent changes in grassland structure; conversion of heathland to intensive forestry. MANAGEMENT Maintain a mosaic of vegetation types on grassland and heathland using rotational grazing regimes if necessary and controlling the excessive encroachment of scrub.
